Additive Colour
The colours we see on a computer screen are created with light using the additive colour method. Additive colour involves the mixing of coloured light. Additive primary colours are red, green and blue. As more colour is added, the result is lighter and tends to white. Whit this method coloured light pass through the image elements to reconstruct the full colours on the screen.
Subtractive Colour
When we mix colours using paint, we are using the subtractive colour method. The traditional subtractive primary colours are red, yellow and blue. Subtractive colour mixing means that as one adds colour, the result gets darker and tends to black.
As you can see from the picture below, when used together, analogous colours seem to blend with each other.
